The vault is a subsurface concrete structure which is attached to a surface building containing other observatory equipment. The vault is entered from the surface building down a flight of stairs. Piers are concrete and are not isolated from the floor. About 1 or 2 meters of earth cover the roof of the vault. Temperature is stable, and humidity is high.
