84 people killed, 2,178 injured, nearly 65,000 homeless and over 18,900 homes and buildings damaged or destroyed in Jambi Province. Landslides occurred in the epicentral area. Felt in many parts of central Sumatera and as far as southern Malaysia and Singapore.

The earthquake was centered about 90 kilometers southeast of Quito. The earthquake killed nine and injured many. The earthquake destroyed 60 to 70% of the houses in Pastocalle, previously damaged by a number of smaller earthquakes
