M 5.3 Volcanic Eruption - 7 km SW of Volcano, Hawaii

This earthquake was associated with a minor explosion and rockfall that occurred around 01:24AM Monday, July 2, 2018 local time from Halema'uma'u crater. Weak emissions were observed at low levels above the crater. NOTE: There were two events only 18 seconds apart in time. The location and origin time shown here refer to the earlier event, while the magnitude is calculated from the later event.
