M6.7 - Near Doganyol, Turkey, 2020
Turkey is a tectonically active country, and regularly experiences damaging earthquakes. Within 250 km of the January 24, 2020 earthquake, seven other M6 or larger events have occurred over the preceding half century, and several of these have been destructive.
M5.8 - North of Livermore Valley, California, 1980
This earthquake injured 44 people and caused an estimated $11.5 million in property damage (of which, $10 million damage occurred at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory at Livermore). The shock was associated with surface rupture along the Greenville fault. The rupture propagated more than 15 km to the southeast along the Marsh Creek-Greenville faults, ceasing in the area of Interstate Highway 580.
M8.2 - Panay, Philippines, 1948
This earthquake occurred near the southwest coast of Panay. Over $3.5 million property damage was sustained in the islands, and 72 people were killed.
