Characteristic Earthquakes: Does History Repeat Itself?
- Dr. Morgan Page, U.S. Geological Survey
How well do past earthquakes predict the sizes and locations of future major earthquakes? To what extent do big earthquakes on major faults such as the San Andreas differ from tiny earthquakes that occur everyday? We explore these questions, which are integral to an ongoing debate in seismology about the very nature of large earthquakes such as "The Big One".
This lecture is free and begins at 6 PM at Sexson Auditorium in Building C at Pasadena City College in Pasadena. There is plenty of free parking available in Lots 6 and 7.
