Kingdome SHIPS Finds Strongest Shaking in the Duwamish River Valley

This snapshot taken from our movie constructed from SHIPS recordings was made about 30 seconds after the implosion of the Kingdome ended. Almost all of the seismic energy created by pieces of the building impacting the ground has already left the Seattle area.

Note that 30 seconds after the last piece of the Kingdome fell, strong shaking along the Duwamish River Valley, and near the former site of the Kingdome itself, can still be recognized. During the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, many of the strongest levels of recorded ground shaking,
and many of the sites that liquefied, were located in these same areas.

View the movie to watch the entire sequence of waves recorded by our Kingdome SHIPS experiment.
