ACTIVE TECTONICS OF THE SEATTLE FAULT AND CENTRAL PUGET SOUND, WASHINGTON — IMPLICATIONS FOR EARTHQUAKE HAZARDS

Figure 7. East-west, industry, conventional and USGS high-resolution, seismic-reflection profiles from Puget Sound (Figs. 2A, B).

For all profiles, tops of dots indicate inferred base of Quaternary deposits and tops of triangles indicate base of Holocene deposits. Faults labeled 1 through 8 refer to structures described in text. For all industry profiles (Figs. 7A, C, D, G), estimates of vertical exaggeration are based on velocities reported from Johnson and others (1994, Fig. 5) from the Standard Engstrom borehole on central Whidbey Island. For USGS profiles, estimates of vertical exaggeration are based on a mean velocity in the upper 1 s of 2,000 m/s.

B. Migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection line P338 from central Puget Sound north of Bainbridge Island (Fig. 2A).

A. Mobil seismic-reflection profile 71-69 (unmigrated) across Puget Sound east of Kingston (Fig. 2B).

C. Part of industry seismic-reflection profile (unmigrated) from central Puget Sound north of Bainbridge Island (Fig. 2B).

D. Part of industry seismic-reflection profile (unmigrated) extending from Elliot Bay into central Puget Sound (Fig. 2B).

E. Migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection profile P332 from central Puget Sound (Fig. 2A).

F. Part of migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection line P330 from central Puget Sound, extending from east of Bainbridge Island into Elliot Bay (Fig. 2A). Location of base of Quaternary (below 1 s) on eastern part of profile is based on crossing lines (Fig. 5).

G. Industry seismic-reflection profile (unmigrated) from central Puget Sound between Vashon and Blake Islands (Fig. 2B).

H. Migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection profile P326 from Vashon and Blake Islands in central Puget Sound (Fig. 2A).

I. Migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection profile P324 from east of Vashon Island (Fig. 2A).

J. Migrated, high-resolution, seismic-reflection profile P323 from east of Vashon Island (Fig. 2A).
