Today's Earthquake Fact:
The Hawaiian Islands are the tops of gigantic volcanoes that formed above a hot spot in the Earth's interior. As the volcanoes grew, they were carried away from the hot spot as the Pacific Plate moves northwestward at about 3 1/2 inches per year.

6.6 At least 9 people killed, 100 injured and damage in the Salima-Dedza-Mchinji area. About 50,000 left homeless in Malawi. Felt strongly in much of central Malawi. Felt in Niassa and Tete Provinces, Mozambique. Also felt in Zambia.
