Today's Earthquake Fact:
The Hawaiian Islands are the tops of gigantic volcanoes that formed above a hot spot in the Earth's interior. As the volcanoes grew, they were carried away from the hot spot as the Pacific Plate moves northwestward at about 3 1/2 inches per year.

Epicenter
5.8 Six persons were injured at Livermore by flying glass and falling ceiling tiles and supports. It caused 1-2 millimeters of additional right-lateral movement on the Greenville fault across Laughlin Road as well as additional movement and displacements along the surface rupture of January 24, north of Vasco Road.
