Giuseppe Mercalli
Italian volcanologist and seismologist.
In 1902, Giuseppe Mercalli improved the Rossi-Forel Scale, increasing the number of steps to 12, and the intensity scale has since been known as the Mercalli Scale.
The Mercalli Intensity Scale uses the observations of the people who experienced the earthquake to estimate its intensity.
