At least 894 people killed and 4,948 injured, mostly in the Bolu-Duzce area. Casualties occurred as far as Eskisehir, Yalova and Zonguldak. Extensive damage occurred in the Bolu-Duzce area. Landslides in the Bolu Pass blocked the Ankara-Istanbul highway. Felt as far as Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. Also felt (III) at Chisinau, Moldova and (III) at Sevastopol and Simferopol, Ukraine. Two events about 2 seconds apart.
M7.7 - Near Coast of Central Peru, 1996
At least 14 people killed, 560 injured and 12,000 homeless from Chincha Alta to Acari. Over 4,000 houses damaged or destroyed (VIII) at Nazca. Felt (VII) in the Marcona area; (VI) at Ica and Palpa; (IV) at Arequipa and Camana; (III) at Lima and Tacna; (II) at Huancayo and Pucallpa. Felt by people in high-rise buildings at Guayaquil, Ecuador and La Paz, Bolivia. Tsunami generated with maximum recorded wave heights (peak-to-trough) of 25 cm at Callao, Peru; 35 cm at Arica and 21 cm at Caldera, Chile.
